Leading by Example

Have you ever noticed that kids do what we do, not what we say?

The other morning I was driving Ayla to pre-school, I noticed that she was picking at her nails. I asked her why she was picking after we had talked about how picking and biting your nails isn’t a good habit, to which she replied, “I want to be like you, mommy.”

While her response was heart-warming in some ways, it also brought tremendous awareness to the fact that I must lead by example. Biting and picking my nails is a habit I learned from my own mom when I was about Ayla’s age, and while I have spent most of my life trying to unlearn this habit, it is still a struggle.

I don’t know about you, but helping future generations be the best they can be (be it our own children or other people’s) also means that we have to be the best that we can be. What better motivation is there?

Whether it is in my business or my personal life, my intention is to lead by example. Being authentic and compassionate are two of my core values.

What are your values? How do you lead by example?

Do you take care of yourself? Do you treat others kindly and with respect? Do you come from curiosity rather than judgment?

For me, the answer is not always… AND that is okay too.

Be compassionate with yourself, and never stop trying to be your best self. The future depends on it… no pressure;)
